I have had plenty of time to heal, as I was last in the business about 9-10 years ago. When I first got out I was really upset! How did I let this happen, how did it come to this? There were million things running through my mind. It certainly has changed over the years, but I still feel sorry for those still in the field, which is why we need this website and others so that people can become informed before making a decision to work for a company like this. It certainly isn't for everyone!!

Couldn't agree with ya more. I was pissed at myself too for being a sucker. But now I look back at it and mostly laugh.

(refer to my story in the "stories" section of this forum) I left feeling very low and displeased with myself. I should have done things my way and I shouldn't have forced him to go as far as he did....but then I thought further about it and I realize I didn't have a gun to his head. But It's been about two years since I've been out and I'm pleased. I still see the guys in the field. Some have expanded to other divisions, some still work the streets, some are even in offices running things. I don't feel bad for them. It's their decision and they want the oppurtunity. I have a sign on the front of my house and my store I own now saying "Solicitors are WELCOMED" and even if I don't need what they are selling I buy at least two items from them, each time because I know the hardships they endure. Direct sales is the second hardest job on the planet. Alaskan Crab Fishing is the hardest....don't pitty the guys in suits going door to door....appreciate them.

Ok there should be no b!tch a$$ne$$. It was just a frikin job. You guys gotta stop crying over this and pull it together. That was just one of the many parts in your life that defines you. Unless something terrible happened to you ...like rape, lost limbs, or murder then you have nothing to whine about...These are stories for the grand kids. If you didn't make it, you didn't make it. Your life really could be worse.

You have a very very valid point. It's a f**kin job...why are you guys acting like it's the end of the world? Who gives a nuts...find another job and move on. Its not hard. Sounds like you guys take life WAY too seriously. Don't take life too seriously, it's not like you're going to make it out alive. Get over it. Who cares. Mc Donalds is always hiring the cows of the world. Leave the big boy work to us rhinos.

I think everybody agrees there, it's just a f'n job. People should not be crying over the past, and should look at the good if any came out of your experience there. Any sort of focus should just be on informing newbies on what it actually entails and the shady practices that occur so they can do 1 of two things, avoid it at all costs, or sign up and then have no regrets when their time there ends. Most of what you are told about the opportunity isn't true so at least now you will know.
The worst part about it all is that nobody knows what they are getting into. I don't blame some people for whining cause they feel they got duped into getting involved in something that is alot different then what is actually explained to them. Regardless, being bitter will never get you anywhere. I was fortunate enough to know, so I will never have any regrets. Just tell your stories people, let people read them so they can make their decisions. Leave out the crying and complaining about it.

SORRY BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE READING !! WHO IS WHINING, COMPLAINING OR EVEN CRYING !!!?? THE TOPIC IS HEALING .... NOT WHINING !!! LIKE SOME OF YOU ARE DOING NOW AS FAR AS SAYING THAT IT IS OR WAS JUST FK'N JOB , OBVIOUSLY YOU'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT DS-MAX OR ..... YOU WERE NEVER A PART OF IT !!! CAUSE IF YOU WERE , YOU SHOULD REMEMBER YOUR MANAGER , V-P OR WHOEVER SAYING "THIS IS NOT A JOB .... THIS IS AN (THE BEST) OPPORTUNITY" THE REASON FOR THIS SITE (TO ME) IS TO PREVENTS OTHERS FROM MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE AS US ...... NOW IF THAT'S COMPLAINING WELL ....... SO BE IT !! LATER BURNED

You are retarded. Plain and simple. You lacked the two things you need to succeed in this business, Work Ethic and a Good Attitude. So because you lacked those two things you failed and got your nuts f**ked up and now you're blaming a business for your failures in life? Why not sue and shut down McDonalds for making your ass fat too! It's the same thing. You had the choice and the oppurtunity. You CHOSE not to take it and make something of it. So you blame them instead because you're too much of a little girl thingy to man up to your failed life. It's not their fault you can't get a better job than the gas station down the street. It's not their fault you're broke. It's YOURS. You chose to waste your money and you chose to cherry pick territory or skip doors. That lady across the street you chose to ignore and not pitch because it was just a little too far...that's your fault. You didn't work your LOA properly. The door you burned because you lost your attitude after a day of No's...your fault. Not the companies. They give you a foundation and all the tools you need to make it work. The office is packed full of people ready and willing to teach you everything you need to be a true manager. But you chose to fail and now you choose to blame someone other than your self. You're a piece of nuts. Smell yourself and make sure you know who really stinks before you open your f**king mouth again.

To say that all it takes to be good in the business is work ethic and a good attitude is complete nonsense.
Being in for a year and out now for about 10, one thing that I know is that sales is a skill. Much like being a professional athlete, doctor, lawyer or engineer (which I now am). Being a people person is a skill.
Can it be learned by utilizing the tools that are given...sure. But itt doesn't matter how much I train, I will never be a pro football player. I just don't have the god given gifts. Could I have been a very good football player? Sure, but not a pro.
Ds-max tells you that they can make you a pro if you work the steps which is just not the case. It could make you an above average sales person, but some people just don't have the natural abilities to excell in the business, no matter how hard they work. Plain and simple.

I realize that the last time anyone posted on this site was in 2009, so I guess I'm talking to myself here. Anyway, you guys who say that this was just a job were obviously not working for the same DS-Max that I was. I have a job now. I've had jobs. DS-Max is not a normal job. They make you work 12 hours a day and then make you feel like you HAVE to go out to dinner or drinks with everyone to maintain "atmosphere". They pay straight commission even though they claim the client makes money even from people that don't buy the product through advertising...so why didn't I get paid for the "advertising"? They force you to travel hundreds, sometimes thousands, of miles to go on road trips or to go to "opportunity meetings" but there was no hotel, fuel, or food allowance. Us stupid kids were shelling out the money that we worked hard for and the company made a killing off of our work and didn't have to spend a dime on our expenses. And what did we do in return? We thanked them for the opportunity!
I can't really feel sorry for people in their 30s or 40s that are stuck in this business. But the kids just don't know what hit them. I know...I was twenty one when I spent my year in the field. Now I can look back and see what was really happening. I never made it to management, but when I started seeing offices closing I realized that it wasn't the pot of gold that had been promised to me. If you make it to "owner", you've supposedly made it. An owner is just a glorified manager. You "own" the office because you pay the rent and its in your name, but that's just so the parent company doesn't have to shell out the expenses for opening a new location. You pay it and you say thank you for the "opportunity". Then there is the fact that you don't actually own anything other than the lease to your office. The merchandise isn't yours. Piss of Max and they'll pull the client. Your guys will toast and you'll be back in the office you came from. That's what happened to my owner. He headed back to his promoting manager with his tail between his legs...oh, and all of the money that we had been forced to put into "security". What a joke!

You have to realize that the certs/toys/flowers/wholesale ISN'T the product they're selling. It's hope. You can live and breathe the program, but you being able to sell the merch, even if you're good at it, isn't going make you money. It's being able to sell the "opportunity" to someone. If you have average (or even below average) sales, you'll make more money by convincing others to be on the level below you.
Malliss619, I applaud your success at dog grooming. But did you really learn EVERYTHING from DS MAX? If so, I imagine any new groomer you hire gets "love bombed" on their first day of work. Do you discourage friendships outside of the grooming business so they don't get "negged out" by people who just don't understand grooming? Are they employees or independent contractors? Do you give them minimal instructions then turf them if they do something wrong? Are they unsupervised? Do you charge the groomer for the opportunity to use the clippers or shampoo? Do you have a high turn over rate? Are you, as an "independent owner" beholden to someone else's business practices, or are you able to innovate from your basic business model?
Part of being in a cult is to dehumanize and disdain outsiders or the excommunicated. I see that's something you learned at DS MAX.
