Hello, The other day I was ripping a DVD with my Asus DVD 12x and it was having many problems. For the record, I am running windowsXP Pro and ACPI is installed. Anyway, it was eating up 100% cpu resources and it was also going VERY slowly on the initial rip. So I checked my settings, and for some reason on the IDE devices, it was showing my DVD drive as PIO mode only. Obviously, something is very wrong here. At one point I was able to fix it by uninstalling that drive and my cd burner and then putting them back on. This worked for a few days and then it switched back to PIO mode. I've also tried a brand new IDE cable, which did not solve the problem. As a side note, the bios detects the drive as udma4, like it's supposed to, and as the secondary master device like it should. But the windows startup screen shows it as the secondary slave. Though when I check the devices after it's fully loaded, it shows as the secondary master... I am totally confused as to what's going on, so if some of my fellow arsers can enlighten me, I'd be very grateful. Please help I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
