I started out in clearance back in the winter of '98. I HATED IT. But i needed money and got blindsighted by the smokesceen of 'opportunity'. It took me a looooong time to bring in money from the field...i am quite possibly the worst saleswoman in the world and I am a terrible liar. In almost a whole year of merching I rang the bell maybe three times...MAYBE....and really, i think my manager helped me some even then. Anyway, the managers at my office kept promising me that if i stuck to it I would make a great manager someday... BWAHAHAHAAAA PBBTHTHTHT!!!
In the meantime, all my old friends from high school had jumped ship (who could blame em??) and i made new friends there at the warehouse. Two of whom I am still in contact with :-)
We used to hang out after work all the time, a trio of my friends (on of whom was my manager) rented the upstairs of a house together, i'd go hang out there with them and one day i came upon a closet FULL OF MERCH!!!
When i asked my friend about it he said (speaking of my manager) "those are Jeff's, managers have to ring the bell everyday and when he can't ring the bell they make them buy it"
I was amazed...and dumb cause even after seeing that i stayed anyway LOL.
Ultimately they sent me to the 'racks' division. I actually LIKED that division!! But the racks manager was a complete JACK. He used to give me and the other guys the crappy, VERY far away routes and he would cherry pick all day. Obviously Christmas time was the busiest time of the year and we had a TON of racks out there from Milan, Michigan to Pt. Huron, from Pontiac to Belle Isle....
Around Christmas time we were getting reemed out because we were overwhelmed with routes to cover before the holiday. One day our manager cussed us out, told us to work faster cause we had more routes than we could handle...as if that was our fault.
I ended up QUITTING on Christmas Eve. I was so frustrated with him, I came back from a long day of a super crappy route...he sent me waaaay out in the boonies. I came back to find out that he had spent the entire day in the warehouse, practicing his archery skills. He set up a target on the floor and climbed up on the pallet of boxes and took his shots. I found out from the secretary that he did that a LOT, all the while swiping money off the top of our hard work, he goofed around all the time while we earned him money. Unbelieveable. I probably wouldn't have quit if he wasn't a lazy hypocrite.
